Evaluating the effectiveness of REBOOT Combat Recovery: A faith-based combat trauma resiliency program
A study co-authored by REBOOT founder, Dr. Jenny Owens, has been published this month in Military Psychology. “Sharing REBOOT’s impact in a scientific, peer-reviewed journal has been a huge goal of mine!” said Jenny. “Those of us who have been a part of REBOOT have seen first hand the life-changing results of the course. It’s time to share this news with the world in such a way that even skeptics will take note. Here, we have preliminary evidence that says that a Christian spiritually-focused peer-led trauma intervention has a significant positive impact on the well-being of combat veterans and their caregivers.”
Results from the study indicate improvement in pain interference, fatigue, sleep disturbance, anxiety and depressive symptoms, and social participation from week 3 to week 12 of the course.
This pilot study has already paved the way for additional program evaluation. Dr. Owens and her team are currently conducting a longitudinal study investigating the impact of REBOOT’s combat and first responder courses on participants’ social connectedness, purpose and meaning, forgiveness, anger, and spirituality. REBOOT will also launch a qualitative study this fall in which graduates of the program will be interviewed to share their evaluation and experience of the program in their own words.
Dr. JENNY OWENS is the Co-Founder and Outcomes Coordinator for REBOOT Recovery.
